I know the ads are really dumb. But seriously, I love the stuff. I have not found a cheaper alternative.

I like it on French fries, steak, and chicken.

So anyway, why is it so good, and what do you like it on?
All my friends love it. They have it is steakhouses. It is better than many of the ‘house’ brands.

I Couldn’t Help But Share With you This Chicken Fried Steak Recipe

If you go to the restaurant and feel like having some special chicken dish, don’t make the mistake of ordering chicken fried steak, since you’d be in for a big surprise. Chicken fried steak is a great way of preparing beef, the name of which comes from the resemblances with fried chicken. Hence, this specialty is recommended to anyone who’d like a well-cooked piece of beef, and it definitely deserves better grades than any pork steak you may have tasted.

Chicken fried steak is known under a variety of other names, particularly in the United States, and confusions are something common: country fried chicken, chicken fried chicken or steak fried chicken. The origins of this popular dish are not very clear, but it is supposed to come from Europe, most probably from Germany since it resembles wiener schnitzel a lot.

How is chicken fried steak made? Once I give you the details you’ll see that you can cook it simply and quickly at home. The main condition for preparing a delicious dish is to cut the beef as thin as possible; then pound it on each side to make it tender and add some spices. Tenderizing is an absolute must-follow step since this type of meat is usually harder in texture; once the process is over, pass the beef through butter and flour while adding some further seasonings including pepper and salt.

Instead of butter you can use a combination of milk and eggs with seasonings, while as a substitute for flour, bread crumbs work great. Chicken fried steak is usually cooked in vegetable oil, as it is a lot healthier than lard and hot butter that were part of the traditional recipe. The preference goes for palm tree oil that is said to have less cholesterol than the sun-flower one, and nutritionists recommend this combination as being a lot healthier.

There are other advantages to cooking chicken fried steak than the rapid preparation mode; first of all the price for the meat cuts is lower than for other meat categories. Then, there are lots of ways to serve beef prepared like this: one can either go for mashed potatoes, boiled vegetables with dressings and salad, or cream gravy. There are no restrictions about the meal at which to serve chicken fried steak: it goes very well for lunch or dinner, but it is not at all uncommon to have it at breakfast with eggs for instance.

Is it possible you would gain more or less fat eating a small meal high in fat vs. a huge meal high in fat?

Toby P asked:

Lets say both meals consist on 60g of fat. One was a slice of cake and a scoop of ice cream. The other is a giant chicken fried steak w/ gravy, buttered corn, and mashed potatoes with crumbled bacon on top.

Would one make you fatter than the other if they were both the same nutritional info, you just had to eat more of one vs the other?

OK here is the scoop, my hubby has had a couple of very long days at work (he works nights and has to work tonight)

Is a police officer so any kind of and alcoholic drinks are out of the question.

I want to have a special night with him tonight he will be getting up at about 7:30. We have two kids and I’m 32 weeks with our third. Our two kids are little and go to bed at 7:00 so I won’t have much time.

What my idea is……..

I’m making chicken fried steak, coconut shrimp, mashed potatoes and gravy with mixed veggies, and some brownies for dessert. I can do all this before I put the kids to bed.

I need ideas from men on how to set it up, what they would like etc. so it will be special. Any ideas?

Fried Chili Chicken: Recipes to Die For!

Monday, November 10th, 2008
Annie Dubois asked:

When it comes to delicious meals, you can have healthy too! Today more than ever, delicious foods are geared at providing healthy benefits in a scrumptious dish that will be a favorite for years to come. Fried chili chicken is a delicious blend of healthy chicken spiced to perfect without the unnecessary additions of added fat or sugar.

Instead of depending on additives that enhance the flavor of the meal, this is one meal that takes simple ingredients and makes them into one dish easy to fix and enjoyed by everyone. Take a closer look at why this is a favorite in my house!

Fried Chili Chicken

Ingredients:

2 tbsp flour

¼ tsp cayenne

1 tsp chili powder

½ tsp ground cumin

½ tsp dried oregano

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp salt

4 chicken breasts, cubed

3 tbsp vegetable oil

1 onion, chopped

2 cups chicken broth

¼ cup chili powder

1 tbsp hot New Mexico chili powder

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp dried oregano

20oz can pinto beans, drained

Directions:

In a plastic bag: mix the flour, cayenne, chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, and salt and toss together. Add the chicken cubes and shake until evenly coated with the spice mixture.

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large skillet and cook the chicken, turning as needed until chicken is lightly browned, set aside. Heat the remaining oil in the same skillet and sauté for 5 minutes. Put the chicken & onion mixture in a large saucepan with the chicken broth.

Add all remaining ingredients - except pinto beans - bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour (add water if needed). Add the beans, taste and adjust seasonings if needed.

Tip: this is a hot temperature chili! Hard crust country bread, thick sliced, lightly sprinkled with oil and toasted or grilled is all you’ll need with this spicy chicken chili.

Dry soup: many Mexican dishes feature bread or tortillas that are soaked in a sauce until the dish resembles more a casserole or a heavy stew than a soup. In Mexico, they refer to these dishes as dry soups.

Canned or fresh peppers: with the ever growing interest in Mexican cuisine across the USA, you will likely find be able to find fresh chilies to meet the needs for your cooking. However, if you must use canned, plan to use about half as much as you would of fresh because the peppers become more packed during the canning process.

When I make this for my family, I try using more goodness by using fresh peppers toasted to perfection. In addition, you will find it is easy to make pinto beans in the Crockpot while at work. This is a great way to insure you are not getting added sodium from canned beans. Also, I can choose the herbs and spices my family loves. You can, of course, find your own!

Fried chili chicken offers an exceptional recipe that is easy to make and tastes absolutely delicious. A favorite in my house, you will find that this can be a favorite in yours too.
